ICONEd has developed an extensive list of research areas and questions and prioritized the two most foundational to our first actions to close the academic-practice gap:

  1. What competencies do practice partners across spheres of care expect in new graduate nurses and how are they measured?
  2. How is clinical judgment being assessed in new graduate nurses at end educational program and at entry to practice?

Literature review and information gathering from transition to practice program leadership and their accrediting bodies across the US and Canada is now underway. Survey and focus groups of nurses and clinical educators working directly with new graduate nurses in practice to follow.
