At about 5:15pm, the charge nurse notified me that I would be receiving a brand new Caesarean section patient who had been delivered in the main OR earlier that day. I cringed as patients delivered in the main OR are usually much, much more complicated than our “normal” Caesarean patients. As I read through the History & Physical of the patient, I compiled a mental list of the possible complications that could arise for the patient. She had a very large BMI and was over 400 pounds, was hypertensive, had sleep apnea, had thyroid issues…..the list went on and on.
