After hearing the night shift report, I found it odd that this patient was Life-lined to our hospital with a diagnosis of Altered Mental Status. She had no active medical problems but after meeting her, I quickly saw her illness. Her name was Jessica, but she liked being called “Jessie”. She was a 32-year-old, married mother of three. She was flown to our hospital after having what her family thought was “some type of fit” at home.
Her husband also told me that Jessie has been getting increasingly violent with him, punching and slapping him often, without provocation. She had also become completely emotionally detached from the children, which put lots of stress on him to raise the children and manage their household.
